Como cuidar da minha peruca?

How do I care for my wig?

Many people don’t know how to care for a human hair wig or even that a wig needs proper care. If you’re one of those people, don’t worry, you’re not alone!

But after all, why is it necessary to take care of your human hair wig?

Just like your natural hair, the hair on your wig also needs to be taken care of because, after all, it is still human hair.

Furthermore, as soon as natural hair is cut from the donor, it stops receiving the necessary nutrients that nourish it and keep it soft, shiny and silky.

Lack of maintenance and using the wrong products on your wig can reduce its longevity, and the hair can become damaged due to incorrect practices.

But here, we never leave you behind! So we've put together 5 steps you should follow so you can keep your wigs in the best condition for as long as possible!

#1 Avoid high temperatures

You probably already know that you shouldn’t expose your natural hair to high temperatures frequently, as this can damage it. The same goes for your wig. Limit the frequent use of straighteners, curling irons, curling irons, etc. And if you do use them, always opt for the lowest settings. And don’t forget to use a good heat-protecting oil to protect your hair.

The same applies when you use the dryer to dry it after washing it… However, it is best to let it dry naturally.

#2 Hair products: more is less!

When you’re wearing curly wigs, you tend to use this, that and that product to give it more definition and keep it that way throughout the day… But just like with hair with a straighter texture, more is less! The fewer products you apply to your wig hair, the better. Try to find a maximum of 2 products to use daily that meet your hair’s needs.

But stay away from those that contain alcohol (for any hair texture) and close to those that are lighter , in the case of straight/wavy hair.

#3 Wash your wig… but don’t overdo it!

Yes, you can wash your wig, but you don't need to wash it every day. Once or twice a week is enough, depending on the products you use on a daily basis. So wash it as often as you feel it's necessary. But don't go 3 weeks without washing it either! The build-up of products and the dust that your hair collects on a daily basis require washing.

To wash your hair you only need your shampoo and conditioner.

  • With the wig inside, fill the sink with warm water and add a good amount of shampoo.
  • Rub the wig with the shampoo and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove any water that was previously in your hair.
  • Finish with your conditioner following its instructions.

When drying: as mentioned before, if you are in a hurry, apply a heat-protecting oil to your hair if you are going to use a hairdryer. However, it is best to let it dry naturally.

#4 Comb before bed or remove

It’s your choice: sleep with the wig on or take it off. Whether you choose the first or second option, there’s still one thing you need to do before you get your beauty sleep:

Comb your hair very patiently from the ends up , in small sections of hair, focusing on the lower back of the wig (near the adjustable headband area) as it tends to tangle there. This is to get rid of knots and prevent them from building up too.

If you sleep with your wig on:

  • Once you have finished combing, divide your hair in two and make two large braids, finally cover your hair with a satin bonnet.

If you remove the wig:

  • Put it back in the box it came in to preserve it, do not leave it unprotected and vulnerable to dust.

#5 Be kind

Regardless of its quality, your wig needs to be treated with the utmost care and love. Avoid brushing your hair roughly. If you find knots, gently untangle them and avoid pulling too hard. When styling your hair, take your time.

All of these precautions contribute to the longevity of your human hair wig.
